Fresco

Fresco, by its very nature, requires rapid execution on a still-damp base. Thanks to Pictography, we create a "mechanical sinopia": a preliminary trace, already in color, that guides the forms of the subject to be painted subsequently.

The color, based on natural oxides, is deposited a fresco onto a layer of pure fior di calce (composed exclusively of slaked lime and sand). This plaster, completely free of chemical or industrial glues, is the result of an aging process that lasts from three to seven years. The result offers unimaginable levels of realism, bringing back the emotion and texture of an artwork painted centuries ago.

The relief details are created with hot-poured natural plaster and glues, then gilded with gold leaf, while the tooling is executed with special burins that do not damage the lime. The final retouching is entrusted to the skillful mastery of our artists, guaranteeing an absolute aesthetic standard on every single piece.

Wood panel

Until the dawn of the 1500s, the wooden panel was the principal support for art: one only needs to think of the immense medieval and Renaissance masterpieces by Giotto or Duccio di Buoninsegna. Beauty, for us, is also a matter of time: this is why we exclusively select premium solid woods, perfectly dried and remarkably thick.

The preparation of the surface follows ancient pictorial techniques to the letter. We apply a hot artisanal mixture of natural gesso and glue: this creates the perfect base, allowing the brush to glide evenly over the wood and preventing the colors from being absorbed.

Thanks to this process and the use of high-purity oil colors, the final image is luminous, characterized by unparalleled chromatism and depth. Works on wood panels can be created with or without solid wood frames, hand-carved and available in various models.

Canvas

Starting from the 16th century, canvas began to replace the wooden panel. A revolution dictated by practical needs: foreign merchants demanded large-format artworks, which required reduced weight and bulk in order to travel by ship.

Since our very first experiments, we understood that to recreate the essence of these masterpieces we had to use the original materials. For this reason, we use pure hand-woven linen made on ancient looms: a tight and incredibly stable weave, destined to defy the centuries. The canvas undergoes the exact same hot-applied gesso preparation used for the wood panels, ensuring an optimal application of oil colors.

Finally, to prevent any loosening of the fabric due to changes in temperature and humidity, each artwork is mounted and stretched on a special solid wood stretcher complete with wedges.
