The Cross of Hope
Stefano Lazzari, Jubilaeum A.D. 2025
The "Cross of Hope" is a double-sided crucifix designed and created by Stefano Lazzari. The cross has two faces, featuring symbols and values related to the theme of the Jubilee pilgrimage, whose motto is "Pilgrims of Hope” to celebrate the Holy Year of 2025. Bottega Tifernate selected sculptor Fausto Schirato for the modeling and Marino Vigolo for the casting of the crucifix. The sculptor creates a plaster model, handcrafting all the details of the reliefs with the utmost precision.
This technique involves creating a mold from a special type of soil, specifically mold soil. This is essentially a disposable method since, after the molten metal is poured and solidifies, the mold is destroyed to extract the piece. The molten brass is poured into an imprint taken from the plaster, and the resulting "art model" is retouched and refined by engravers. Each product is individually painted and burnished. Through the patina process, the chiaroscuro effects of the modeling are enhanced. A protective coating is then applied to prevent the object from deteriorating over time; to make the memory it represents eternal.
