History
This work depicts a farmer sowing seeds in a field under a large, bright sun. The figure, dynamic and central to the composition, symbolises work, hope and the cycle of life, while the fields in the background suggest regeneration and growth. Inspired by Jean-François Millet, Van Gogh transforms the theme with his intense palette of yellows, blues and violets, giving the scene a vibrant energy and strong symbolic value. The sower's gesture and the sunny landscape create a sense of movement and vitality that reflects the artist's optimism and admiration for rural life. The work combines rural realism and emotional expressiveness, embodying the connection between man and nature.
