Relais Seneca Palace
Bespoke Art for Boutique Hotels: Painting, Wood Engraving and Local Identity
Client: The Bianconi Family – International Architect Andrew Bowen / Luxury Hospitality Sector
The Context: Art in Luxury Hospitality and the Quest for the ‘Genius Loci’
In addition to private and residential commissions, Bottega Tifernate’s bespoke approach is in high demand within the luxury hospitality sector. Interior designers and architects of major boutique hotels are increasingly turning to the Bottega to transform these establishments into veritable art galleries, capable of reflecting the identity and profound spirit of the local area (the Genius Loci). A prime and highly successful example of this synergy is the collaboration with the international architect Andrew Bowen on the interior design of the prestigious Relais Palazzo Seneca in Norcia.
The Artistic Concept: Two Distinct Styles for a Historic Residence
For this sophisticated interior design project, La Bottega developed a dual-concept artistic vision, demonstrating extraordinary stylistic and technical versatility. For the property’s exclusive private suites, a classic and reassuring elegance was chosen, brought to life through the masterful recreation of famous masterpieces by Botticelli, Raphael and Piero della Francesca. For the spacious communal and reception areas, however, La Bottega turned towards absolute originality, creating entirely new works, bespoke to celebrate the landscapes and vibrant colours of the nearby Sibillini Mountains.
Material Innovation: Engraving the wooden panels
It was precisely in the creation of the landscape works for the communal areas that the Bottega introduced a technical and aesthetic solution of the highest calibre. To enhance the power of Umbria’s natural scenery, the master craftsmen developed a distinctive technique: the application of tempera and acrylic paint was combined with a skilful and meticulous engraving of the wooden support.
The Result: A complete sensory experience
This hybrid technique has given the paintings a unique three-dimensional texture, transforming the interior design into an experience that is not only visual but also tactile. The project at Relais Palazzo Seneca stands as a profound tribute to the local area, confirming Bottega Tifernate as a partner of excellence for the luxury hospitality sector seeking exclusive and inimitable atmospheres. In 2017, Palazzo Seneca was named the world’s best Relais & Châteaux in Los Angeles.
