The Context: Art Consulting and the Enhancement of the “Genius Loci”

La Bottega Tifernate has for years positioned itself as a strategic partner of excellence for major contract projects and the design of luxury boutique hotels. Operating as a true art consultancy studio, the company develops comprehensive artistic concepts capable of enhancing the Genius Loci of every property (as was the case with the wood-engraved works and Renaissance suites at the Relais Palazzo Seneca). The most impressive and mature expression of this holistic approach to interior design is the magnificent project realised for the Relais Hotel Centrale in Florence.

The Project: a 15th-century residence a hundred metres from the Duomo

Located in a prestigious historic residence within a 15th-century palace just 100 metres from the Duomo, the hotel required a decorative scheme capable of rivalling the city’s beauty. The project was developed following a rigorous and fascinating thematic concept: to celebrate, in every room, the works of art, painters, squares and historic buildings of Florence, with particular attention to works exhibited in the city’s museums or created by Tuscan masters.

The Execution: Comprehensive Art Direction and Stylistic Fluidity

For this monumental project, Bottega Tifernate oversaw the entire art direction, creating over 50 works using its patented pictography technique on fresco, canvas and panel. The team moved fluidly between three different expressive languages:• Museum Philology: For the bedrooms and certain communal areas, Renaissance masterpieces (1400–1500) by great artists such as Botticelli, Bronzino and Raphael were masterfully recreated.

Unprecedented Vedutism: Entirely original works were conceived and produced in the studio, in which Florentine squares and monuments were reinterpreted, drawing inspiration from the atmospheres and techniques of Flemish landscapes.

Contemporary Art: To create a dialogue between the historic residence and modern design, highly contemporary and original works, painted specifically for the project by Stefano Lazzari, have been incorporated into the communal areas.
