Private villa in Albania
Total Art Design: a blend of eclecticism and haute couture – convex frescoes, original ceiling works and pictorial mimesis
Client: Italian interior design studio for an international private client
The Context: A temple of ‘Made in Italy’ abroad
This project, which spanned four years, represents one of the finest and most comprehensive expressions of the collaboration between Bottega Tifernate and high-end interior architecture. The company was commissioned to work alongside a prestigious Italian interior design studio tasked with creating a sumptuous villa in the hills of Tirana. The entire architecture was conceived as a tribute to Italian excellence: from the imposing Trani stone structures to the furnishings of the highest quality cabinetmaking. Within this context of absolute luxury, Bottega was tasked with ‘adorn’ every room with beauty, from the private quarters to the majestic communal and reception areas.
The Challenge: Complex Architecture and Journeys Through Time
The challenge posed by the architect was twofold. On the one hand, there was a need for extreme stylistic eclecticism: the client wished to range from the splendour of Italian Baroque to the delicacy of French Impressionism, via Roman mythology. On the other, the real complexity was structural in nature: the works were not simply to be hung, but embedded within complex interior architectures, which included precision-cut panelling, expansive ceilings and, the ultimate technical challenge, walls with curved surfaces.
The Workshop’s Work: Materials Engineering and the Creation of Something New
Stefano Lazzari’s team rose to the challenge by showcasing an unrivalled arsenal of technical and artistic skills.
The Convex Frescoes: In the grand hall on the first floor, overlooking the inner courtyard, the Bottega engineered supports capable of accommodating the convex curvature of the walls. The frescoes were recessed flush with the surface, demonstrating a mastery of materials that bends ancient art to modern geometries.
The ‘Original’ Ceilings: Moving away from mere reproduction, the workshop has created entirely original compositions, ‘tailor-made’ to the client’s taste. A marvellous ceiling pergola has been created and, above all, a vast, original landscape painting that masterfully embodies the poetics and style of the great 17th-century masters, such as Guercino and Guido Reni.
Mimesis in the panelling: In the main hall, the aesthetic shifts to accommodate refined recreations of the great French Impressionists (with a focus on Monet and Renoir) and scenes from Roman mythology. Here too, the canvases have been engineered to blend seamlessly into the panelling, which was bespoke-made for the room.
The Outcome: The Ultimate Partner for High-End Architecture
The final result, after four years of painstaking dedication, is a villa that stands as a true collective masterpiece. This monumental commission demonstrates a fundamental truth to the world of luxury real estate: Bottega Tifernate has no technical or stylistic limits. Whether it is a matter of wrapping a fresco around a curved wall, painting a 17th-century sky or evoking the light of Monet, Bottega is the definitive partner for transforming an architect’s vision into an immersive museum-like reality.
