White Crucifixion by Marc Chagall
In 2019 we made Marc Chagall's "White Crucifixion," a work created by the artist to coincide with Crystal Night, one of the main moments of Jewish persecution. His goal is to denounce the unjust persecution suffered by the people and he does so by placing the figure of the Crucified Christ at the center. Pope Francis for its timeliness has always admired this work, so much so that he personally requested a reproduction from the Bottega Tifernate. The execution, smaller by 2.5 times, was made in pictography and then painted in several layers using natural oxide pigments. The support is handmade linen canvas, mounted on a frame and inserted inside a wooden frame equal to the original. The work today is in the Holy Father's room at Casa Santa Marta.
